Couples Red Journal

Privacy Policy

Effective date: 14 August 2026

1. Who we are

This website is operated by CRJ, an unincorporated publishing imprint, publishing as Couples Red Journal ("the Journal", "CRJ", "we", "us"). Works published by the Journal are written under the pen name C. R. Jules.

This policy covers couplesredjournal.com. It does not cover the platforms we publish on, which handle your data under their own policies. Section 6 says which ones and what they hold.

2. The short version

We do not sell your data, we do not rent it, and we do not build a profile of you.

There are no accounts on this site. There is nothing to log into. If you never give us your email address, we never learn anything about you beyond what any web server sees.

If you do give us your email address, we use it to send you what you asked for, and you can leave at any time.

That is the whole arrangement. The rest of this page is the detail.

3. What we collect

Your email address, if you hand it to us. Only if you fill in a form asking to hear from us. We store the address, the date you gave it, and which form you used, so we know what you asked for.

Ordinary server information. Like every website, ours records the requests it receives: IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the referring page, and the time. This is how a website works and how it stays up. It is handled by our host and kept only briefly.

Aggregate page statistics. Which pages get read, roughly where readers are in the world at country level, and which links they arrived from. Counted, not tracked. See section 5.

That is everything. There is no third list.

4. What we do not collect

5. Cookies and analytics

This site does not use tracking cookies.

Our analytics counts page views without cookies and without following anyone between sites. It cannot identify you and it does not try to. This is a deliberate choice, and it is why you are not being asked to click a consent banner on arrival.

Some links on this site lead to other companies, and those companies may set their own cookies once you arrive. That includes affiliate links, where a cookie tells the seller we sent you. We have no control over it, we cannot see it, and their policy applies from the moment you leave here.

6. Who else is involved

We use a small number of outside services. Each holds some data, each has its own policy, and none of them receive anything from us for marketing purposes.

Our host and network provider serves the pages and filters malicious traffic. It processes IP addresses and request logs.

Our email service stores the list and sends the emails. It records deliveries, opens, and clicks in aggregate so we can tell whether an email arrived at all.

Substack hosts our publications and sells every subscription. If you subscribe there, your account, email address, payment details, and reading data are held by Substack under Substack's privacy policy, not this one. We see the email address of our subscribers and basic subscription status. We never see your payment details.

Print and merchandise partners, if you ever order a physical item, receive the name, address, and payment details you give them directly. They sell to you, we do not, and their policy governs that order.

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your data with anyone else, and we do not hand it over for anyone's advertising.

7. Payments

We do not process payments and we never see your card.

Subscriptions are sold and administered by the platform you subscribed on. Billing, renewal, cancellation, refunds, and any dispute are between you and that platform, under its terms and its privacy policy. We cannot look up your card, change your billing, or issue a refund, because we do not hold any of it.

8. Email

If you are on our list, you receive what you signed up for and nothing else. We do not sell the list, we do not lend it, and we do not use it to advertise anyone else's products.

Every email carries an unsubscribe link that works immediately. You do not have to tell us why, and we will not write to ask.

If you unsubscribe, we keep a record of the address for the sole purpose of not emailing it again.

9. Adults only

Everything the Journal publishes is intended for adults aged eighteen or over.

This site is not directed at children, we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under eighteen, and we do not want it. If we learn that an address on our list belongs to a minor, we delete it without waiting to be asked.

10. How long we keep things

Email addresses: for as long as you want to hear from us, and no longer. Unsubscribe and the address moves to a suppression record.

Server logs: a short retention period set by our host, typically days, kept for security and reliability.

Analytics: aggregate counts only, with nothing tied to an individual, so there is nothing personal to expire.

11. Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, send you a copy, or stop using it. Write to the address in section 14 and we will do it.

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, those rights come from the UK GDPR and the GDPR, and you also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority. Our lawful basis for holding your email address is your consent, given when you signed up, and you can withdraw it at any time by unsubscribing.

If you are in California or another US state with a privacy law, you have similar rights of access and deletion, and the right not to be discriminated against for using them. We have never sold or shared personal information as those laws define it, and we do not intend to.

We will not charge you for any of this, and we will not make you create an account to ask.

12. Security

We keep what little we hold on reputable services, protected by the ordinary measures those services provide, and we hold as little as possible in the first place.

Nobody can promise perfect security over the internet, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we can say is that the safest data is the data that was never collected, which is why section 4 is as long as it is.

13. Changes

We may update this policy. The effective date above will change when we do, and material changes will be noted on this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised policy.

14. Contact

For any request about your data, write to that address with "Privacy" in the subject line. Tell us what you want done and which email address it concerns.
