Couples Red Journal

Dares from the Drawer

C. R. Jules

Once a month, I open the drawer and dare you to actually play.

A couple in a softly lit bedroom, foreheads touching.

Not once, as a stunt. Every month, as a habit. Once a month I am going to open the drawer, take out a dare, and hand it to you, and it will not be a thing you read and nod at and forget. It will be a thing you do.

Each dare runs across days, not minutes, because the whole secret of this is that the body learns more from the wait than from the arrival.

This is play, and you are in charge the entire time. Stop any night, skip any night, change anything, for any reason or for none, and stopping is never failing.

I will never once ask you to be reckless. I am going to ask you to be brave, which is a different thing entirely.

The drawer opens in November. The first one is free.

I dare you.
